In Attendance:

Dominic Gunder, Ron Cervi, Kris Iverson, Fred Gregory, John Davis, Bill Britton, Skip Cole, Steve Bates, Elena Ruiz, Ted Koopman, Burt Feiser, John Gibson, David Petri, Theresa Pulvere, Andy Kimari, Sheila Ragan, Ross Chambers, Steve Miller, Skip George, Jeffrey Serylo, and Dawn DellAcqua.

Showboaters

Skip Cole – Republic Moving and Storage – Nester Evan Cole Jr. is Skip’s real name. Republic Moving and Storage are currently in their busiest phase of their business year. Shared a story of estimating a move for a couple who were “hoarders”. It was difficult to walk through their home because of all of the “stuff” that they had stacked inside of their home.

David Petri – Allstate Insurance - Shared a secret about how to possibly get out of a ticket for a moving violation…”Mr. Ticket” (619) 563-1515. David explained how a moving violation effects your auto insurance.

Speakers

Ross Chambers – ProScapes of San Diego – Shared his appreciation for being a member in the chapter. Ross encouraged all members to put all they can into their part in the chapter so that they will realize the full blessing of being a part of such a rewarding network

Ross gave a brief history of “lawns”. Originally only the aristocracy had lawns, and lawn irrigation (1870’s) first was only available for golf courses and then began coming into the estates of the wealthy and eventually into the residential neighborhoods as the underground piping changed from steel to pvc and sprinkler heads changed from rigid pipes sticking up out of the ground to heads that are hidden in the lawn and then pop-up when they come on and spray a more consistent coverage pattern.

There are sprinkler timers that must be programmed by the zip code and the topography. Some timers now will monitor the weather conditions themselves and only come on when the conditions indicate that it is needed.

All new residential are required to have the “Smart Timers” for irrigation. (These timers only water “as-needed”) … and all Commercial Irrigation are being required to convert to “Smart Timers”. Ross is qualified to install and convert these new “Smart Timers”, so let’s keep Ross in mind for all of our Property Managers and Contractors who may be able to use his services.

———————————————————————————————————–

John Davis – Send Out Cards – John had been a Salesman all of his working life, when he came to a point that caused him to feel hollow in that capacity of employment. John came into a position with San Diego memorial Society which was completely dependent on donations. As he struggled thru a particular difficult phase, John received a card from his friend Joe, who knew that John needed an encouraging word. The card from Joe was written in Joe’s handwriting … but the writing was so neat that John had to call Joe and ask him how he did that. Joe had John come over and he introduced John to Send Out Cards.

John sent his brother a card right away, and his brother became angry. When John asked why, his brother Mike replied “John, I haven’t heard from you for two years and now you send me a card trying to sell me something?” John realized then that when you send a card, the intention must be to focus on the relationship … NOT to sell something. When you focus on the relationship, good things will follow.

John shared a card that he recently made for his sister using Photoshop to produce a card that was so personal

Reports:

Ross Chambers – Attendance Monitor - 66.67 % of the members were in attendance last week. Four excused and six unexcused absences last week.

Next week, We are Dark – NO Meeting!

Next Meeting, July 14th

Skip Cole and David Petri – Greeting

Steve Miller and Steve Bates - Guest Speakers

In Attendance:

Kathleen Carry, Dominic Gunder, Kris Iverson, Fred Gregory, Sheila Ragan, John Davis, Skip Cole, Steve Bates, Elena Ruiz, Ted Koopman, Burt Feiser, John Gibson, David Petri, Brian King, Andy Kimari, Randy Jansen, Paul Barban, Ross Chambers, Mike Salsbury, Steve Miller, and Theresa Pulvere.

Showboaters

Steve Bates – Attorney at Law – Shared the importance of having estates in order by having a will or a trust in place. Steve shared approximately 40 seconds of his services and then various members started voluntarily giving testimonials about Steve’s services. Everyone appreciates Steve’s service and his care so much that he doesn’t even have to say anything.

Steve Miller – Handyman Services – Shared his categories of service and reminded us that he is extremely busy at this time, so please plan in advance for his services so that no one is let down by a wait time. We all need Steve’s services.

Speakers

Ted Koopman – Ted’s Coins and Stamps – Shared his personal resume beginning with collecting stamps as a young boy. Ted joined the Navy with a plan on spending only three years in the service, and after 32 years of service, he retired. When Ted started his own business, he found that if there was a mistake to be made … he made it. 20 years later, his business has survived and been very successful. Ted reminded us that having a business mind starts with offering service. (There will be a coin show on July 24-25, 2010 at the Scottish Rite Center … and Ted has invited us all to come and see what he does for ourselves). Collecting as a hobby is fun, rewarding and educational. Collecting for investment purposes requires a strategy and planning. Ted is able to assist in both areas, and he promises that either form of collecting will be rewarding and enjoyable.

There were two 1858 Canadian 50 cent pieces – one was uncirculated – for sale at $30, and one was circulated – for sale at $10. Ted could only afford the $10 coin. Ten years later that coin was worth $20 and the uncirculated coin was worth $900. Value can be exponential, so be aware of what you invest in … both in time and finances.

When asked about investing in Gold, Silver or Platinum … Ted suggested that the investors stick with Gold and Silver. These two precious metals will continue to retain their value and appreciate with time.

———————————————————————————————————–

Andy Kimari – Dominion Financial Services – We tend to digest things that are useful to us at the time, if it’s not so important to us at the time … we tend to let it pass us over. When is it important to have Life Insurance? Health Insurance? Disability Insurance? Is it before we need it, or after we need it?

Andy spoke to us about the way that networking works. Networking has a ripple effect. When we offer someone exceptional service, they tell others who will tell others who will tell others… and when we invite guests into the chapter, we get to know them better every week and we learn things about their services that make us of greater value to our own customer base.

How do you give out a referral? By being aware of the needs of your own circle of influence every day. Consciously think about the chapter members during the week and you won’t be able to NOT give tips.

Be a servant. When it’s all about THEM … they will respond. Call people back. Respond in a timely manner to the communications of others. This will Always bear fruit.

Offering your clients something they do not expect, like a greeting card from SOC, will mean much more to your client than something that they are expecting.

Be sure to Thank people for their referrals and for their business. Thank You still goes a long, long way in communications.

In typical Andy fashion, Andy spent his time investing in the growth of the rest of the members rather than just focusing his time on his own gain. Andy has consistently encouraged, supported and strengthened the members of the group for the 23 years, which continues to make our chapter what it is today.

Reports:

Ross Chambers – Attendance Monitor - 76.67 % of the members were in attendance last week. One excused and six unexcused absences last week.

Next week’s Participants:

Steve Bates and Steve Miller – Greeting

Ross Chambers and Kathleen Carry (or John Davis) – Guest Speakers

Showboaters

Ted Koopman – Ted’s Coins and Stamps – Shared new coins that are available and reminded us that gold is the most valuable investment at this time.

Ross Chambers – ProScape Landscaping of San Diego – Reviewed new landscaping technology and shared that he attends training on new technology available in the field

Speakers

Fred Gregory – Avalar San Diego – Shared his personal resume beginning with being an Architect for 17 years right out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. When he met his wife, he decided that he wanted to have more control over his time, so he left the field of architecture and ventured forth into the field of Real Estate. Avalar has 26 agents who are able to work remotely and rely on Fred’s training and support. Fred introduced us to Brian Tracy and shared with us some of Brian’s wisdom. (Book – James Allan – “As a Man Thinketh”) The book – Napolean Hill – “Think and Grow Rich” played an important part in Brian Tracy’s life.

All Causation is Mental – We are a mind with a body following its direction.

Whatever you Expect With Confidence, becomes your reality

If you’re in it for them, they will help you. If you’re only in it for you, then you are alone in your efforts.

#1 Begin thinking today in a positive, optimistic, confident way about personal and financial success.

#2 Develop you own attitude of positive expectations

Look for the good in every situation You will be amazed at the results.

———————————————————————————————————–

Sheila Ragan – Ocean Point Financial Systems – Went to a T.V. pilot yesterday to promote business’. Of the two contestant’s, only one of them actually gave the impression that they were aware of the business they were in. If we are not aware of where we stand in our own business, we may not be successful because we don’t even know where we stand ourselves. Every business needs a current accounting overview in order to have direction. Some times we have to put a part of our personality aside in order to be successful in business. Our own perception and our customer perception must be the same. If we are not doing as well as we did last year, then the only way that we can understand this is to keep records and to review these records in order to make the constant adjustments necessary to continue on the road to success.

Financial Statements will provide an overview of what needs to be changed and what needs to be strengthened. Sheila reminded us again that the New Orleans Saints are the finest football organization in the NFL and shared with us that they took a bus to the gulf area with the Super Bowl Trophy to help bring light on the situation involving the oil spill.

Next week’s Participants:

Michael Farkas – Stanley Security Solutions
Victor Najor – Golden Camel Catering

Showboaters
Andy Kimari – Dominion Financial Services – Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Disability. Confused about Health Insurance? See Andy.

Virginia Shuey – Wireless Works – For all of your cellular needs. (Did you know that people over the age of 25 still wear a wristwatch, but people under the age of 25 seldom do … BECAUSE IT’S NOT A MULTI-FUNCTIONAL DEVICE!)

Speakers
Dominic Gunder – AEGIS Pest Services – Reviewed the various types of cockroaches that we find locally. Dominic shared his passion for traveling to Africa to help facilitate clean water to the natives of Africa, some of which is done by harvesting rainfall. Dominic explained that the name AEGIS is Greek for “Protection” … and Dominic works hard to protect homes from invasive (and damaging) insects.

John Davis – Send Out Cards – John is a Manager with Send Out Cards and he is very close to being promoted to a Senior Manager with Send Out Cards. John reviewed how setting values has helped bring him to this point in his relationship with Send Out Cards, and shared with us how these four core values will continue to help him.
1st Value – Authenticity – Being Authentic
2nd Value – Spirituality – Always working from Center of the true self to reach others in a meaningful way.
3rd Value – Intimacy – Connecting the real Me with the real Other (Why is the waitress being rude today? Because her child is very sick, or because she is going to school as well as working two jobs and she is worn out. I will connect with the person who is hiding behind this façade today and make her day a little better).
4th Value – Personal Growth – Constantly investing resources (time, energy, compassion, passion, etc) into growing.

Reminders/Notes:
Please remember to let Ross Chambers (Proscape of San Diego – Landscaper) know if you are going to be absent. Ross’ number is: 619-795-4692. Ross prefers to be e-mailed so he has it in writing. His e-mail address is: Ross@ProScapeSD.com

Landon Amonette returned from his Honeymoon in Antigua. Congratulations to Landon and his lovely bride.

Ted Koopman returned following doctoring for cancer and he was as energetic as ever. It was like someone left the window open and fresh air blew into the room when Ted took the floor. Welcome back Commander!
